These and many other issues are confronting us each day in the news, legislatures, churches and even in casual conversation. It is very important that each citizen learns how to approach these topics with a clear scientific understanding of the issues involved. The courses I teach are designed with this goal in mind. Whatever final decision a student makes on these issues, it is my hope that the decision will be based on scientific fact, rather than rumor, myth or innuendo.
Words from the Cove:
!!!!
Welcome to Otters Cove, Spring 20102!!
Thoughts to Ponder:
In science, "fact" can only mean "confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent" I suppose that apples
might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms. — Stephen Jay Gould
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. It is a miracle that curiosity survives
formal education. — Albert Einstein
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not Eureka! (I found it!) but rather, ‘hmm…that's
funny…’ — Isaac Asimov
We are an impossibility in an impossible universe. — Ray Bradbury
Life is an imaginary line in the sand that exists only because kindergarteners can see it. — Michael Liebenow
